An economist is a man who knows a hundred ways of
making love but doesn’t know any women.
If the market does indeed embody the sum of all
human wishes, then the secret ones are just as important as the ones that are
openly displayed.
If all the economists in the world were laid end
to end, they wouldn’t reach any conclusion.
There is certainly no absolute standard of
beauty. That precisely is what makes its pursuit so interesting.
The ideas of economists and political
philosophers, both when they are right and when they are wrong, are more
powerful than is commonly understood. Indeed the world is ruled by little else.
Practical men, who believe themselves to be quite exempt from any intellectual
influence, are usually the slaves of some defunct economist.
If economists could manage to get themselves
thought of as humble, competent people on a level with dentists, that would be
splendid.
Teach a parrot the terms "supply and demand" and you've got an
